San Diego is less high maintenance than LA and is generally just more laid back...I figured that out once we booked into the W Hotel and found a beach on the roof! Yes I know it sounds odd...it's weird and I'm not sure it worked...to be honest I was hung over and had a shit drive from LA so I wasn't in the mood for a beach party on the roof of the hotel - I wanted a quiet lunch...but we had a DJ banging out disco beats very loudly whilst people laid on the beach!......We had just had a drive from Hell - we almost ran out of petrol on the way and had to make a desperate detour to Laguna beach to find a gasoline station..and the traffic everywhere was horrible all the way to San Diego and it's not a short trip - 133 miles.....
When I got to the W hotel I could have eaten a whole herd of cows...so I ordered something substantial..Steak Frites...it arrived but it was not what I expected...I struggled through my Steak Frites "with a twist" the size of Mount Everest....I got a plate full of deep fried sweet potato and steak cubes on a skewer....not exactly my Chez Gerard special.. with that; the heat; no shade and fat boy slim making my ear drums melt - my humour did not improve!
Today though we went to Sea World....and I'm not sure I really liked it either....kiddies would absolutely love it - but although they emphasised the education aspect of the park - I couldn't see much by way of education....alot of the park is pretty worn out and needs an upgrade...and DON'T BUY A QUEUE JUMP TICKET.....it's not Universal Studios .....we paid extra for these tickets and it didn't matter a jot....a total waste...
The animal shows though were great...the pilot whales; dolphins and the Killer Whale Shamu was fab although the "Believe show with the Killer whales was hilarious.....firstly we all had to salute all of those brave men and women serving in the armed forces (including our allies).Sorry...what??..... I really resented this ridiculous crap.....they are doing what we pay them to do just like every other public servant and that is why I object to them being singled out and applauded....it's not dignified.... They also got in for a discount too - they got the "Heroes ticket"....(OMFG)...I was wondering what the nurse in the local hospital who saves lives every day for half the salary of an army cook got....I think they are heroes everydays...but what do they get? mmm nothing...Zip - what about teachers, doctors....or any other public servant? mmmm no...They have to pay full price too......so that got me thinking why the hell are the armed services so special when they already get a million more perks than any other person on the planet?..... and then the penny dropped....Sea world is owned by Cindy Mcain's company...John Mcain's barbie doll beatch......YUK...
Well when we stopped bowing to the 3 people from the armed services...who stood up in the 5,000 crowd capacity....all three looking as though they last served in the Civil War....the show started.....we heard that deep "film" voice...and the huge screen started telling a story...both the film on the screen and the accompanying narrations was gut wrenchingly vomit inducing.....(Deep voice)..."there was once a boy...who had a dream...against all the odds .....and all the obstacles....one day his dream came true".........you get the drift?...but despite the crappy production behind the show....the whales were great..
Tomorrow we fly back to New York..for the last few days..before I go to London and then onto the last leg of my sabbatical...Hong Kong; Thailand; and Malysia....
